The Warwick Farm Races is a lot like the STC Canterbury race track, in which the former is a midweek racing course located on the outskirts west of Sydney. Warwick Farm races consist of starting points at 1000m, 1100m, 1200m, 1400m, 1600m and 2200m. A horse racing on the pace on this track is a good advantage since it consists of sharp bends out of the straight and close to the 1200m line. The 1000 and 1400m starting point and the fields only negotiate the turn at the home turn, which is why the barriers don’t play as large a role compared to other race tracks.

About Warwick Farm Racecourse

One of the most prestigious racetracks in New South Wales is the Warwick Farm Racecourse, a racetrack managed by the equally prestigious Australian Jockey Club. It is located about 30km from Sydney GPO and it hosts 15 racing events each year including the spring and autumn racing carnivals.

Warwick was bought by the AJC back in 1922 and in 1925 the first horse race was held here with over 25,000 people in attendance. In 1940, Warwick was used by the Allies as a military camp. It was called Camp Warwick of HMS Golden Hind during that time. In the 1950s, Warwick was reconstructed to fit a racetrack in for automobiles. Between the years 1960 and 1973, Warwick became a racecourse for horses and cars, and even the Australian Grand Prix was held here. The Grand Prix regularly held their race events in Warwick in the years 1963, 1967, 1970, 1971.

Warwick's racetrack is 1,937 metres in circumference and it has a 326 metre straight, and it is considered to be a tight track with a sharp turn near the 1200 metre marks. It being a tight track gives an advantage to front runners, but for the horses at the back they should run wide to make it to the front. The racecourse is also equipped with one sand track for training and two grass training tracks.
